The Merdeka celebration at Food Institute of Malaysia (FIM) 2026 brought students and staff together to take part in a variety of activities.
Organised by the FIM Student Affairs Department in collaboration with the 2025/2026 Student Representative Council, the two-day programme was held from September 10 to 11 at the FIM campus.
What made the celebration special was the participation of students and staff in the same teams, rather than competing separately.
The activities included aerobics, sack races, slipper throwing, coconut bowling and tug-of-war, giving participants the opportunity to take part in traditional games in a fun and relaxed setting.
Bringing students and staff together not only added to the excitement of the celebration, but also provided an opportunity for members of the FIM community from different backgrounds to interact and strengthen their rela
tionships through the activities.
On the second day, the programme continued with a Merdeka-themed skit competition, where students showcased their creativity in delivering messages of patriotism and love for the country.
The programme involved around 150 participants, with 10 committee members involved in organising and supporting the event.
The FIM Merdeka Celebration 2026 also served as a platform to foster patriotism, teamwork and unity while encouraging greater interaction between students and staff.
The activities, the FIM community had the opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Merdeka Through in a relaxed, cheerful and harmonious atmosphere.
